Canada's Coastline

Why do beaches change from year to year?

Because of variations in the supply of sediment to the coastline (from rivers, for example) and because of variations in the transport of sediment within the beach caused, for example, by variations in the number and size of storms. There are also changes brought about by humans who, for example, modify the supply of sand by constructing dams, and modify transport by constructing harbours and breakwaters.
