So that you may better appreciate the context of the rocks that you see in the field, we provide this synopsis of the regional geology. A fuller version can be gleaned from The Last Billion Years (Atlantic Geoscience Society - AGS - 2001). A geological map of Nova Scotia is shown in Figure 1, and Figure 2 is a geological column with some representative rock "formations".
